Shaker Motion Analyzer

See How Your Shaker Is Really Moving

Prototype: Field Trials Under Way

Put Numbers on Shaker Motion

You can't read G-force or stroke by looking at a running shaker. The SMA is a battery-powered puck that rides on the basket and records how it moves. A phone app connects to it over Bluetooth, guides you from point to point, and turns the runs into a report.

Because it measures at six points, you can compare left against right and feed against discharge, not just take a single reading.

How It Works

1. Place

The puck holds to the shaker's top rail with six magnets, with its arrow pointing toward the discharge end. The app shows where each point is on a drawing of the basket.

2. Record

Record 5 or 10 seconds at each of six points along the rails. Detailed mode adds a seventh point on the base frame. Allow about 10 minutes per shaker.

3. Review

The app compiles the runs into a report you can read at the shaker, then save as a PDF and share from the rig.

What It Measures

G-Force

How hard the basket is shaking at each point, checked against a G range you can adjust.

Stroke

How far the basket travels with each cycle.

Running Speed

How fast the vibrator motors are turning, to compare with the motor nameplate or VFD setting.

Motion Angle

The direction of the shaking motion relative to the deck.

Motion Shape

Whether the basket is moving in a straight line or an ellipse.

Deck Angle and Side Tilt

How the deck sits, measured from the same sensor.

Every result is labeled. The app marks each value as measured or as an indicator, which points to something worth checking rather than giving a diagnosis. Experimental results stay hidden unless you turn them on.

Companion App

From the Rail to the Report

The Android app is included with the SMA, and its Google Play listing is coming soon. An iOS version is planned. The app also installs firmware updates on the puck over Bluetooth.

Before You Use It

  • Not rated for hazardous areas. The SMA has no Class I Div 1/2 or ATEX approval. Use it only where your site allows ordinary electronics, such as a phone.
  • Site rules come first. Follow your site's JSA, permit and lockout procedures when working near a shaker.
  • Prototype hardware. The SMA is in field trials, so its design and specifications may change before production units are available.
